Animals play an important role in many people’s lives. They impact us in positive ways and can affect the quality of our resident’s lives. Research indicates that interaction with animals can reduce levels of pain and anxiety as well as increasing social behaviours.
At Yukana we have found that regular visits from Whisper, a retired Guide Dog, and the colourful array of birds in our bird aviary do in fact bring joy to our residents. Not only do they assist in creating conversations, they provide a safe, friendly environment to make friends and build relationships. The birds in particular bring bright smiles to the faces of residents and family members alike while watching their antics as they fly around.
