We are all passionate about something in life, for many residents at Yukana Private that passion is food. After a lifetime of cooking for themselves, they now have an opportunity to have someone else cook for them.
Quality, freshness and taste
Of course, our residents still expect quality meals – ones that are cooked fresh and taste great.
Handing over the reins to someone else doesn’t mean residents aren’t interested in knowing how their meals are prepared. This is particularly true of their midday meal, which is the main meal of the day.
Needless to say, many residents were delighted when offered an opportunity to attend a cooking demonstration in the dining room. This was provided to residents by Yukana Private and CaterCare, who prepare freshly cooked meals from the kitchen each day. It was a chance to show residents the different techniques used to prepare their meals, bringing their food to the forefront.
On the lunch menu was Spanish Style Chicken Gratinated Meatballs, Braised in Homemade Tomato Sauce with Creamy Potato Bake. Dessert was a delicious Marinated Strawberry Meringue and Chantilly Cream Eton Mess.
Residents from both the Total Care Facility and Independent Supported Units were able to watch Chef, James, conduct the demonstration. Staff from across Yukana were also keen to join them. Everyone observed as James prepared the main dish, cooking the Spanish Meatballs and explaining his cooking methods along the way.
Throughout the demonstration, those in attendance were able to ask questions. At the end, everyone received a copy of the recipes for the main dish as well as the dessert.
A tasty morsel
Once the demonstration was over, everyone was ready and eager to sample the meal. While they sat talking about the demonstration and comparing cooking methods, the main meal was delivered. A hush slowly descended across the room as everyone began consuming their meal. The quiet continued as empty plates were replaced with tasty desserts. After all of the deliciousness of lunch, talk soon turned to critiquing the meal. And the final verdict from the residents… ‘delicious’, ‘most enjoyable’, ‘very tasty’!
